The future is looking that little bit brighter now thanks to Remarkable and the Cerebal Palsy Alliance's eight new innovative tech start-ups seeking to remove barriers for people with disabilities.
Announced earlier this year, the start-ups, listed below, come from several countries including Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
So, how does it work? Well, it's actually quite simple--all you need is a great idea! Remarkable offers a 16-week accelerator program which equips early stage start-ups with $75,000 of funding as well as knowledge, skills and tools to help them become a commercially viable business that also makes a positive impact.
Since 2016, nearly 50 start-ups have used Remarkable's accelerator program and raised more than $35 million to assist in unlocking the future of disability products and tools around the world. Start-ups are further aided by masterclasses, deep dives and being able to hone their work with personal start-up coaches.
Here are the ideas that caught Remarkable's attention in 2022:
Homeable - creates personalised and inclusive smart home solutions to increase independence in the home.
Nuroflux - the world's first wearable to non-invasively monitor brain activity and blood flow alongside other vital activity relevant to stroke and stroke rehabilitation.
WearWorks - WearWorks is a haptic platform company that builds products and experiences that communicate information through touch.
RecoveryVR - provides a fun and engaging, medication-free, virtual reality application that motivates more adherence to rehab activities in the home or clinic while also providing measurement data, adherence tracking and unlimited healthcare access using a custom-built telehealth portal.
Participant Assistive Products - is democratizing high-quality assistive products and putting them within reach of unserved people, starting with the 70 million people who need but do not have a wheelchair or the mobility, health, inclusion, and dignity that an appropriate wheelchair can provide.
Vacayit - Vacayit is Australia's first audio tourism platform, using storytelling to revolutionise travel for blind and low vision tourists.
Biomotum - Biomotum’s wearable rehabilitation robots empower mobility and discovery in children with Cerebral Palsy.
Accessercise - the first complete fitness app created specifically for people with impairments.
